1. HAVE A BALANCED DIET:

Try to eat a healthy and balanced diet that involves fruits, vegetables, proteins, and fibers too. You must consume foods rich in folic acid, i.e., green leafy vegetables to prevent birth defects. And also foods that can help you maintain your Vitamin D and calcium levels, such as certain fruits, dairy products, eggs etc. So as to keep bone diseases at bay.

 

  1. MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT:

Eat well and try to maintain a healthy BMI (Body Mass Index). It is very important to have a healthy body weight in proportion to your height. It is unhealthy to be overweight or being underweight, and in order to maintain a balanced body composition you have to eat well, sleep well and exercise daily.

 

  1. GO FOR REGULAR CHECKUPS:

Even if you are perfectly fine, always go for your monthly checkups and screening tests that can help you to detect abnormalities at an early stage if there are any present.

Go for a walk or a run for at least 30 mins daily. Engage yourself in any form of physical activity with a few breathing exercises. You can sit at a quiet place and do some meditation or yoga for a few minutes, it will not only help to lower your stress levels but will also help you focus on things better.

Sleep for at least 6-8 hours at night, as sleeping well and on time not only helps fight against aging but also helps to lower down stress levels and keeps your mind fresh.

 

  1. HYDRATE:

Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water in a day and keep your body and skin hydrated. Drinking a lot of water helps you to flush out bacteria from your gut, so always drink water first thing in the morning. It is also helpful in preventing migraines and kidney stones.

Always be cautious and aware of your surroundings and be on alert for all the people you are surrounded by. Make a note of all the emergency numbers that can be helpful in times of need and do keep a note of the route and the area you are in.

 

  1. NEVER WALK ALONE ‘AT NIGHT’:

Make sure that you never walk alone at night, so plan things out accordingly. Always ask a trustworthy person to accompany you in case you have to stay out late. And also avoid taking public transportation if you can.

 

  1. STAY AWAY FROM STRANGERS:

Don’t talk to strangers in public places and don’t share your personal details with people you don’t know or trust. Also whenever you are at a party, make sure to always serve your drinks and food by yourself and never take it from a stranger.

 

  1. SHOUT OUT:

If you are walking down a desolate street and you feel that someone is stalking you, try to move to a more crowded place and scream at the top of your lungs to seek the attention of people in the vicinity so as to avoid any potential harm.

 

  1. DRESS WISELY:

Always plan your outfits according to the event or the place that you are going to be at. By judging the type of people you are going to be surrounded by and how late you are going to stay out so as to ensure that in case of an emergency you can act out accordingly (avoid wearing heels or scarves and necklaces that are easy to grab by someone who has intentions to harm you).

 

  1. SELF DEFENCE:

Try and learn some basic self-defense techniques and use those whenever needed (poke into the eyes, hit hard on the nose or spleen). Make it a habit and always keep a pepper spray with you for safety.
